This book is required reading and explains how modern Marco evolved when the Mackle Brothers/
Deltona Corporation purchased this 24 square mile island from the Collier family in 1964 (46 years ago) for $7 million. If the Mackle Brothers were alive today I’m sure they would be astounded to know that several individual homes on Marco have sold for more than $7 million. The developer staged a grand opening January 13, 1965. Over 20,000 people visited that day alone! Amazing!!
My parents purchased a condominium in 1970 and I and my 8 siblings and their families would visit Mom and Dad at different times each year. We loved Marco so much that we came back every year for our two week vacations.
Every departure from Camelot was extremely difficult until our trip in 1983. That trip there was no departure - I never went back!! I resigned my great corporate job and moved my wife and three kids to Marco. I’ve never looked back and it was the best decision I’ve made in my entire life.
